1. Conference Preparation Guide
- BRING YOUR DRAFT — Print or have the current draft open. Highlight the thesis and the topic sentence of each body paragraph before you arrive.
- YOUR STRONGEST PARAGRAPH — Identify one paragraph you are proud of. Be ready to say specifically why it works: strong topic sentence, good evidence, clear analysis.
- YOUR WEAKEST PARAGRAPH — Identify one paragraph you are least confident about. Write a specific question about it: 'The transition into paragraph 3 doesn't connect — how do I fix it?'
- REVISION PRIORITY — After identifying your questions, rank them: global (thesis, structure) before local (word choice, citations). Share your ranked list with Prof. Upchurch at the start.
- FOLLOW-UP ACTION — After the conference, write one concrete revision action you will take before the final deadline. Specific: 'I will rewrite the topic sentence of paragraph 2 to link it to my thesis.'
Turn in / bring: Complete steps 1–4 before your conference appointment. Write step 5 immediately after the conference while feedback is fresh.
